Beaches, cliffs and sunsets over the Atlantic.
Location ยท Sintra
Forty minutes from Lisbon, Sintra looks like a fairy tale: palaces on misty hills, gardens full of ferns and fountains, and the Atlantic cliffs just beyond.
Sintra is where Portuguese kings and nineteenth-century romantics built their summer palaces, and it shows: towers and turrets on wooded hills, mossy stairways, lakes and grottoes. For a proposal it means a setting that feels like a story, less than an hour from your hotel in Lisbon.
The colourful palace on the hilltop is Sintra's icon, but its terraces are crowded from the moment it opens. The park below, with its lakes, paths and views up to the palace, is quieter and much more private.
A palace in a botanical garden, with sweeping lawns, a ruined chapel and trees from all over the world. One of the most romantic places in Sintra, and one of the least crowded.
Famous for its Initiation Well and grottoes. It's beautiful, but it's also very busy and has its own rules for professional photography, so we plan it carefully or suggest a quieter alternative.
The westernmost point of mainland Europe: cliffs, a lighthouse and nothing but ocean ahead. Dramatic at sunset, but often windy, so it suits a simple proposal better than a big setup.
For a full setup, such as a flower arch or a candlelit picnic, a private garden or terrace near Sintra gives you space, privacy and no closing time.
Most of Sintra's palaces and parks are managed by Parques de Sintra, which asks for advance authorisation and a fee for professional photography and filming. Quinta da Regaleira has its own rules. We take care of the requests and include any fees in your quote, so there are no surprises on the day.
Sintra has its own weather: the hills can be wrapped in mist while Lisbon is sunny, and it's usually a few degrees cooler, so bring a layer. The quietest times are first thing in the morning and the late afternoon. Most visitors come between late morning and mid-afternoon, especially at weekends and in summer.
Questions
Yes, but the palace terraces are busy all day. We usually suggest a quieter spot in the park with a view of the palace, and arrange the photography authorisation in advance.
For a professional photographer, yes, in most of the parks and palaces. Parques de Sintra asks for authorisation and a fee in advance, and we arrange it for you.
By car or taxi in about 40 minutes, or by train from Rossio station in Lisbon. For a proposal we usually suggest a car, so you arrive relaxed and on time.
In a private garden or quinta, yes. In the public parks big setups usually aren't possible, so we keep the decoration small there.
